In 1992, my younger brother was diagnosed with a severe case of Autism just a year after he was born. It was so bad that my parents considered putting him in an assisted living facility. Instead they put him in a school where they could help my brother overcome this disease. After a few years my brother graduated from this school and had improved greatly. When he started regular school he had a "helper," I guess you could call them, who went with him from class to class and took special classes during the day to get the extra help he needed. Now, 11 years after he was diagnosed, my brother is in the sixth grade at our middle school and is taking only a special study hall so his teachers can help him organize himself better and help him with his homework. Autism, like so many other diseases, has no cure and the best treatment is not the treatment you get from the hospital or a special school. The best treatment out there...is hope
